The Universidad Iberoamericana ( German : Iberoamerican University ), UIA for short , is a private university in Mexico founded by the Jesuits in 1943 under the name Centro Cultural Universitario (CCU) and is one of the elite universities in the country.
Real estate
After it was founded, the UIA was initially located in a building at Avenida Hidalgo 120 (San Angel settlement) in Mexico City , which now houses the “San Angel Inn” restaurant. The institution includes a school for philosophy and the humanities , which was located on the premises of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Teaching began with seven professors and 13 students; the first rector was Gabriel García Rojas . In 1952 the university was given its current name. It has been independent from UNAM since 1974.
The largest campus and headquarters are still in Mexico City today; other locations are Guadalajara , León , Torreón , Puebla , Tijuana and Acapulco .
The architect Augusto H. Álvarez was responsible for planning the Mexico City campus in the Campestre Churubusco housing estate . After the campus was destroyed in an earthquake in 1979, the current buildings were built, which the architects J. Francisco Serrano Cacho and Rafael Mijares Alcérreca were responsible for.
