The University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (also called Milwaukee , UWM or UW – Milwaukee ) is a state university in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , USA .
The university belongs to the University of Wisconsin system and is the second largest university in this system after the University of Wisconsin – Madison . Almost 30,000 students from more than 80 countries are currently enrolled, and the faculty employs 1,623 people. The university is particularly known for its research and teaching in the field of architecture and urban planning. 180 degrees are offered, comprising 94 Bachelor, 53 Master and 32 PhD programs.
history
The story dates back to 1885 when the Milwaukee State Normal School opened. Today's University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee was founded in 1956 as a result of a merger of the old University of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin State College of Milwaukee (formerly Milwaukee State Normal School).
