action

The cruise ship Royal Clipper takes various holiday guests on board in Malta for a tour: teacher Peter and his wife Sonja as well as entrepreneur Christian with wife Jeanette and children Anna and Franzi not only go on a cruise together, but also live in a semi-detached house. The rich Karl von Hainburg is on his honeymoon with his young wife Susan. Stefanie, the daughter of Captain Klaus Berger, is also on board and tries to forget her lovesickness, as she has just separated from her boyfriend, the musician Jakob.

The cruise goes back to Malta via Rome, Amalfi, Goso and Palermo. During the trip, Karl learns that his wife was married to four rich men before him, whom she gutted and dumped. With the support of Marlene, the good soul on board, Karl succeeds in testing Susanne. He pretends to have lost all of his money. Susanne, however, continues to stand by him, confesses her life story and convinces Karl that her feelings for him are real. Tensions arise between the married couples Peter and Sonja and Christian and Jeanette when Christian injures his meniscus and is therefore being cared for by Sonja, who is a physiotherapist . Since neither of them is interested in the sights of Italy that Peter would like to talk about, it follows that Peter and Jeanette go on excursions together on land, while Christian and Sonja secretly enjoy themselves together. When Peter catches Christian and Sonja in bed together, both couples meet for a discussion. You decide to change partners. In the future, Peter and Jeanette as well as Sonja and Christian will share their lives. To Anna and Franzi, who run away in the face of the development and are only found by Marlene, all four assure that they do not have to be afraid, because they are loved by all four and in this respect hardly anything has changed.

Stefanie's lovesickness is also short-lived. Jacob realized that he had behaved badly towards her. He travels to the ship and catches up with it after a long odyssey. The young woman is delighted to be able to hug Jakob again. With Marlene's help, he was able to get on board undetected. After all, he earned his stay by playing the saxophone. Marlene, in turn, makes her cabin available to both lovers overnight. At the end of the cruise, Stefanie and Jakob disembark together in Valletta and the exchanged married couples board the waiting cars with their new partner.

criticism

For film-dienst , Unter white sails - vacation trip into happiness was the "prelude to a cruise television series that reaches into the cliché box of exotic travel films."

TV Spielfilm wrote: “TV Schmonzette that sails through shallow waters. [...] Conclusion: a slow sailing trip into boredom. Escapism in the most absurd way. "
