Unterickelsheim is a district of the municipality of Martinsheim in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

Geographical location

Unterickelsheim is located in the extreme south of the Martinsheim municipal area. To the north is Martinsheim, in the northeast Gnötzheim . On the other sides, Unterickelsheim is surrounded by the district of Neustadt an der Aisch-Bad Windsheim .

The closest larger cities are Ochsenfurt, about 9.5 kilometers away, and the large district town of Kitzingen , about 15 kilometers away.

history

The place was first mentioned, at that time as "ikylenheim", in the year 889, but it was founded a few centuries earlier at the time of the Frankish conquest. The original settlement was divided into the villages of Unter- and Oberickelsheim . In the Middle Ages, changing rulers took over the village. The lords of Ansbach-Brandenburg in particular had a lasting impact on Unterickelsheim when they introduced the Reformation in 1528 .

Initially, the Bavarian rural community belonged to the Central Franconian district of Uffenheim . In 1978 the village came to the newly formed community Martinsheim in the district of Kitzingen.

The Protestant parish church is consecrated to St. Nicholas. The choir tower has been preserved from a previous building from the late 13th century . The first changes were made in 1405, followed by the extension of the nave . On the altarpiece from the 17th century is. a figurative crucifixion group integrated into a painted landscape. The oldest part of the church is the sacrament house from 1405.

There are two stone crosses from the Middle Ages at each of the town exits , originally probably atonement crosses . In the village there is an inn sign decorated with a double-headed eagle from the late 18th century.
