Upptåget train in Upplands Väsby

Upptåget is the name of a regional train system in the Swedish province of Uppsala län . The trains also serve sections in Gävleborgs län and Västmanland län .

The lines start from Sweden's fourth largest city Uppsala and extend to Gävle and Sala . Since December 2012, the network has comprised 16 stations and stops. Twelve of these stops have been reactivated.

history

The first line Uppsala - Tierp started operations on August 19, 1991 on behalf of the public transport company Upplands Lokaltrafik AB (UL). This was followed on August 21, 2006 by a northern extension to Gävle and a southern extension to Arlanda C and Upplands Väsby . On December 9, 2012 Upptåget was discontinued on the Uppsala – Upplands Väsby line. A new line from Stockholm's Pendeltåg and a new Uppsala – Sala line were set up to replace them .

The actual train operation was carried out by Statens Järnvägar from 1991 to 2011 , then by DSB Uppland, a subsidiary of the Danish railway company DSB . On September 1, 2017, Transdev Uppland AB, a subsidiary of Transdev SA , took over operations.

In the beginning, multiple units of the X10 series were used. These were replaced in 1998 by the further developed X12 series .

Class X52 multiple units have been in use since 2003 . UL has one three-part and ten two-part trains of this type. The trains have a maximum speed of 200 km / h.

Between April 2017 and January 2020, UL also used modernized X11 trains rented from Pågatåg on the Uppsala – Sala route . The released X52 trains will be used on the Uppsala – Tierp – Gävle route in order to cope with the strong growth in passenger numbers there.

In May 2017, it was decided to procure eight new, four-part double-decker multiple units of the Stadler KISS type . The vehicles are rented from the leasing company Transitio and bear the series designation ER1 . The first new train started running on December 14, 2019. All eight new trains on the Uppsala – Gävle route should go into operation by summer 2020.
