Urban Gottfried Siber
Urban Gottfried Siber (also: Sieber ; * December 12, 1669 in Schandau ; † June 15, 1741 in Leipzig ) was a German Protestant theologian.
Life
The son of the pastor Mag. Justus Sieber († 1695) and his wife Catharina Zinck came from a large family. Initially he was trained by private teachers and then at the age of thirteen he joined the electoral state school St. Afra in Meißen , where Johann Georg Wilke was the rector of the institution. In 1688 he moved to the University of Wittenberg , where he attended the lectures of Konrad Samuel Schurzfleisch , Christian Donati , Christian Röhrensee , Michael Walther the Younger , Caspar Löscher , Johann Deutschmann , Johann Georg Neumann and Philipp Ludwig Hanneken for three years .
In 1691 he continued his training in Hamburg with Esdras Edzardus , at the University of Kiel with Christian Kortholt , Christoph Franck , M. Opitz, Johann Burchard May and Heinrich Muhlius and then moved to Copenhagen , where he took on a position as court master. 1695 returned to his Saxon homeland, acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy in Wittenberg on April 22, 1696 and became rector in Schneeberg in 1698 . In 1703 he became a deacon in Schneeberg and was promoted to archdeacon there in 1708. In 1711 he moved to the St. Thomas Church in Leipzig as a deacon and Wednesday preacher, where he became Vespers preacher in 1714, archdeacon in 1730 and pastor there in 1739. In addition to his ecclesiastical duties he assumed in 1715 in Leipzig the newly created professorship of "Church antiquities" , was in 1714 licentiate in theology and on September 23, 1734 Doctor of theology.
Siber died unmarried.
