Uwe Erwin Engelmann (born July 19, 1951 in Uihei , People's Republic of Romania , actually Erwin Josef Engelmann ) is a Romanian- German writer in the fields of poetry and short prose from the German-speaking minority of the Banat Swabians .

Life

Engelmann, son of the teacher Franz Engelmann and the teacher Anna Engelmann, b. Krumenacker, attended the school where both his parents taught in the first few years. His younger brother is the Magister Manfred Engelmann .

Engelmann later switched to the German-speaking Nikolaus Lenau Lyzeum in Timisoara and lived in the boarding school for three years. From 1970 to 1974 he studied German and English at the University of Bucharest . Until 1976 he was a teacher in Reschitza . He then moved to Siegen in the Federal Republic of Germany , where he still lives today. From 1980 to 2016 Engelmann was a teacher at the Städtisches Gymnasium Kreuztal with the subjects German and English.

His activity as an author began in 1969 with the publication of poems in German-language newspapers in Romania. He later commented on this: [...] Poems don't have to be complicated. Poems are snapshots and - to put it bluntly - you can write poems about anything - including diarrhea. In 1974 he was represented for the first time with poems in an anthology.

However, he stopped publication in his home country in 1974 because of the censorship in the communist regime. After seeing Alfred Kittner again in 1990, Engelmann decided to resume his interrupted literary work. In addition to poetry, Engelmann has been writing short stories and short prose since 1991: Just as others need the psychiatrist's couch, I need pencil and paper to reflect and cope with my everyday positions.
