Uwe H. Schneider

Uwe Helmut Schneider (born January 29, 1941 in Karlsruhe ) is a German lawyer and professor emeritus at TU Darmstadt .

Career

The son of a lawyer at the Federal Court of Justice, after graduating from high school in 1960, studied law and economics at the universities of Heidelberg , Kiel and Freiburg . After completing his law degree in 1964, he completed a legal traineeship in Freiburg, Offenburg and Karlsruhe and graduated in 1967 with the second state examination in law. In 1968/1969 Schneider studied at the École Nationale d'administration (ENA) in Paris-Amiens. In 1969 he was at the University of Freiburg with Thomas Würtenberger with a criminal working for the duty of the authorities to the submission of files in criminal proceedings for Dr. iur. PhD. In 1970 he was an assistant at the University of Edinburgh (JDB Mitchell). After returning to Germany in 1970, he became a research assistant to Marcus Lutter at the Ruhr University in Bochum . There he completed his habilitation in 1974 and received the venia legendi for the subjects civil law, commercial and business law, labor law and comparative law. In 1975 Schneider was appointed head of department and H3 professor at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Since 1976 he has also held the office of director of the Institute for International Law of Savings, Giro and Credit Systems. In the same year Schneider accepted a position at the Technical University of Darmstadt. There he held the chair for civil law, German and international business law and labor law. In 1986 he was offered a position at the University of Trier , which he refused.

Schneider was visiting professor at the Law School of the University of California at Berkeley (1981), at the College of Law at Georgia State University in Atlanta (1990), at Chūō University in Tokyo (1992) and at the School of Law at Duke University in Durham (2001).

Since 1986 Schneider has been a representative of the Federal Republic of Germany in several working groups of the EU Commission , and since 1987 a representative of the Federal Republic of Germany in various working groups of UNCITRAL . In 2002 he became a member of the German Takeover Council and in 2003 a member of the Steering Group on Corporate Governance of the OECD . On October 1, 2009, he was appointed Corporate Governance Officer at the Bundesbank ; and on July 1, 2014, he was appointed Corporate Governance Officer at the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau. On January 1, 2010, Schneider joined the law firm Schmitz & Partner (Frankfurt am Main) as Of Counsel . In 2010 the State University of Saint Petersburg (FINEC) awarded him an honorary doctorate.

Schneider is widowed and has two children, Sven H. Schneider, partner at Hengeler Mueller Attorneys at Law in Frankfurt and Susanne A. Schneider, specialist in neurology and professor at LMU Munich.
