Uwe Schultz (born June 8, 1936 in Hamburg ) is a German radio journalist , literary researcher and publicist .

Career

Schultz was born the son of newspaper publisher Friedrich Schultz and his wife Almut (née Koch). After the parental publishing house of Wandsbecker messengers in the war had been destroyed and not returned his father from Soviet captivity, he grew up in Elmshorn in grandparents' publishing house of Elmshorner messages and attended the linguistic branch of the Bismarck School . After graduating from high school in 1957, he studied philosophy, German studies and history at the University of Hamburg and took part in philosophical seminars by Kurt Leese and Kurt Noack .

In 1958 he switched to Max Müller to study at the University of Freiburg for two years and was also a cultural reporter for the Badische Zeitung . He then went to Vienna for a semester and then continued his studies in Munich with Max Müller, who has meanwhile also moved there, and with Helmut Kuhn . From 1960 he was trained as a feature editor at the Süddeutsche Zeitung , so that he did not receive his doctorate until 1964 with Müller at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich on the subject of the problem of schematism in Kant and Heidegger .

Act

In 1964 Schultz became editor in the literature department of the Hessischer Rundfunk (hr), which he headed from 1970. In the same year he took on a teaching position at the University of Frankfurt am Main for literature in the mass media . From 1976 until his retirement in 1994, Schultz was head of the cultural word department at hr. On his initiative, the literary quiz show Literature in Cross-Examination with Peter Härtling was added to the program. Under his direction, the programs Das Kulturmagazin am Sonntag Abend on medium wave and Das Radioskop , a 50-minute magazine with the subtitle Culture in the Afternoon for current cultural reporting on hr2, were created . Schultz realized several series that were also published in book form.

Schultz is considered to be one of the best experts on the history of absolutist France and has published numerous biographies and studies on this subject. He lives in Frankfurt am Main and Paris and is a member of the PEN Center Germany .
