Václav Čevona

Václav Čevona (born May 24, 1922 in Ružomberok ; † January 9, 2008 in Ústí nad Orlicí , Czech Republic ) was a Czechoslovak athlete who was particularly successful as a middle-distance runner .

Čevona was Czechoslovakian champion in the 1,500 meter run in 1944, 1946, 1948, 1950 and 1951 and set eleven national records on the distances from 800 m to 2000 m .

At the European Athletics Championships in Oslo in 1946, the two Swedes Lennart Strand and Henry Eriksson won . Behind them four runners fought for the bronze medal, which the Dane Erik Jørgensen won in 3: 52.8 minutes. Čevona took fourth place in a national record time of 3: 53.0 minutes.

In 1948 Čevona achieved his fastest time in 3: 49.4 minutes. At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 , Henry Eriksson won ahead of Lennart Strand and Willem Slijkhuis , and Čevona was fourth again in 3: 51.2 seconds. Two years later he was sixth at the Euro 1950 in Brussels in 3: 51.4 minutes. At the Olympic Games in Helsinki in 1952 , he was eliminated in the semifinals.

Václav Čevona was 1.76 m tall and weighed 67 kg during his playing days.
