Koninklijke Football Club Vigor Wuitens Hamme , better known as KFC VW Hamme or VW Hamme , is a Belgian football club from Hamme in Flanders .

history

The club emerged from the merger of two football clubs based in Hamme.

On May 2, 1908, the Vigor Football Club Hamme-sur-Durme was founded and in 1922 joined the Union Royale des Sociétés de Football Association . In 1934 the association received the attribute royal in its name. On June 14, 1953, the Jonge Wuitens Voetbal Vereniging was founded as a company sports group of the Hamme-based company Scaldian Overseas . This joined the Belgian Football Association in 1958.

On July 1, 1972, the merger between the two clubs was completed and the club was given its current name. Like the previous clubs, the club initially played in the lower leagues.

In 1997, the club was eleven points ahead of Sint Niklaas champion in Division A of the third division and thus rose to Division 2 for the first time. However, the team finished 16th there and had to compete in the relegation games. After two defeats the immediate relegation was certain.

In 1998/99 VW Hamme missed the direct re-promotion as fourth, in the following season as runner-up they qualified for the relegation games. Here, however, the club failed after a 3-2 defeat in the first leg with a 2-2 draw in the second leg at OC Charleroi . In 2001 the team was only ninth, in 2002 the runner -up was again behind SV Zulte-Waregem . With four wins they made it into the relegation final , where competitor KV Oostende was clearly beaten 4: 1 and thus the return to the second division was certain.

With an eleventh place VW Hamme managed to stay in the league. In the following two years, the team reached the same place in the table. In the following year, the club reached the table ninth in the promotion games, where after three wins and three defeats, third place behind Lierse SK (12 points) and KVSK United Overpelt-Lommel (10 points) was achieved.
