Valérie Garbani (born September 19, 1966 in Neuchâtel , resident in Vergeletto ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ).

biography

The daughter of a lone worker grew, Garbani studied as a working student - she worked as a secretary and waitress - jurisprudence . Only in 1996, after completing her professional training, did she join the Social Democratic Party and was elected to the Cantonal Parliament of Neuchâtel in 1997 .

In the 1999 elections Garbani was elected to the National Council, re-elected in 2003 , and voted out in 2007 . Until 2004 she was Secretary General of the French-speaking part (ASLOCA) of the Swiss Tenants' Association. She also made a name for herself through her commitment to Sans papiers . In 2004 she was in the executive branch of the city of Neuchâtel, the Conseil communal ( municipal council , elected), where she directs the Directorate for Environment and Transport. In 2007 she took over the office of mayor (which changes every year) . She had to give it up early in April 2008 due to private problems; but she was re-elected as a member of the government despite critical media reports.

She was fined in August 2008 for assaulting two police officers . In March 2009 another incident occurred in a Neuchâtel disco , for which she was sentenced to 60 hours of community service in September 2009, among other things. She resigned from her government office in July 2009. Since December 2009, Valérie Garbani has been working as a lawyer for the property management of the city of Geneva .
