The Val d'Anniviers ( German  Eifischtal ) in the Swiss canton of Valais is a southern side valley of the Rhone Valley .

geography

Located in the district of Sierre , the valley extends in a southerly direction right next to the city of Sierre .

The Val d'Anniviers is the easternmost (and thus uppermost) left-hand Rhonenebental in the French-speaking part of the canton, the Lower Valais. Neighboring valleys in the east (upstream of the Rhone) are the Turtmann valley and the Mattertal . To the west lies the Val d'Hérens .

The Val d'Anniviers divides into two partial valleys at Vissoie , the western Val de Moiry extends to the Moiry glacier above the Lac de Moiry reservoir .

The eastern Val de Zinal ( German  Zinaltal ) extends to the Zinal glacier . Its debris-covered tongue is fed by several firn streams, the Glacier des Bouquetins, the Glacier du Grand Cornier, the Glacier Durand and the Glacier de l'Obergabelhorn . Until a few years ago, the Glacier du Mountet was also one of the tributaries. Above the glacier, the Petit and Grand Mountet huts serve as alpine bases. The panorama from Grand Mountet to the "Krone von Zinal" with the Zinalrothorn , Trifthorn , Wellenkuppe , Ober Gabelhorn , Mont Durand , Pointe de Zinal , Dent Blanche and Grand Cornier is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the Alps. The entire head of the valley, including the Weisshorn, is also called the Imperial Crown (Couronne impériale). It forms the showpiece of the villages of Saint-Luc and Chandolin further out of the valley on the slope and of Montana north of the Rhone.
