Valdemarsvik is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Östergötland County and the historical provinces of Östergötland and Småland . The main town of the municipality is Valdemarsvik .
The name of the community refers to the Danish King Waldemar II , who commissioned an exploration of this area. In summer, the number of inhabitants increases sharply due to the large number of tourists who relax here.

The landscape of the municipality is characterized by a strongly indented coast and many skerries . With all the bays, the coastline here is over 700 km long. The largest bay is called Valdemarsviken and is bordered by mountains up to 70 meters high.
Attractions
In the village of Gusum there is a remarkable glassworks and a museum dedicated to brass products . The museum is located in a former factory, which was the first in Sweden to start producing zippers in 1931 .
