Valentin Gallmetzer

Valentin Gallmetzer (born February 9, 1870 in Obereggen ; † January 16, 1958 in Klausen ) was a South Tyrolean academic sculptor .

Life

He received his first art lessons at the age of 17 at the kk technical school in Bozen . In 1890, during his service as a soldier in Vienna, he met the painter Thomas Riss , who gave him drawing lessons. In 1896 he began his apprenticeship with Franz Tavella in Val Gardena and stayed there until 1899. Gallmetzer enrolled in 1901 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich .

Gallmetzer was mayor of Klausen for 16 years until the fascists forced him out of office.
