Valentin Tanner (born October 2, 1992 in Geneva ) is a Swiss curler . He plays as a lead in Peter de Cruz's team .

Career

Valentin Tanner began his international career at the 2010 Junior World Championship , where he already played as lead for Peter de Cruz. The Swiss won the gold medal after beating Ally Fraser's Scottish team in the final . The following year Tanner came back to the final with Team de Cruz, but lost to Sweden with Skip Oskar Eriksson .

At the 2014 World Cup , he moved into the play-offs with de Cruz, lost there against the Swedes with Oskar Eriksson, but then won the game for 3rd place against the Canadians with Kevin Koe and won the bronze medal.

At the 2015 European Championships , Tanner and the Swiss team lost in the final against the Swedes around Niklas Edin . In 2016 and 2017 he won the bronze medal.

At the 2017 World Cup he got into the play-offs. The Swiss defeated John Shuster 's US team there . In the semifinals they lost to Sweden with Niklas Edin, but then won the game for 3rd place against John Shuster. With the third place he achieved the necessary points for the Olympic qualification with the Swiss team . Together with his teammates Peter de Cruz (Skip), Benoît Schwarz (Fourth), Claudio Pätz (Second) and Dominik Märki (substitute), he took part in the men's tournament at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . After the Round Robin , the Swiss and the Great Britain came fourth. They won the tie-breaker against the British team around Kyle Smith , but were then defeated in the semifinals against Sweden with Skip Niklas Edin . In the game in third place they were able to defeat the Canadian team around Kevin Koe and win the bronze medal.
