distribution

Vanilla kaniensis is endemic to New Guinea . She found it worse in forests at an altitude of 600 meters in the Kani Mountains .

Systematics and botanical history

After its discovery in 1908 Schlechter described this orchid in 1911. He named it after its occurrence in the Kani Mountains.

Within the genus Vanilla , Vanilla kaniensis is classified in the subgenus Xanata and there in the section Thetya , which contains all species of the Paleotropic . Vanilla kaniensis is similar to Vanilla wariensis , which is also native to New Guinea , but has larger leaves, a shorter ovary and a distinctly three-lobed lip. Likewise, according to Soto Arenas and Cribb Vanilla kempteriana .
