Varennes is a village and a former French community with 342 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Vienne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Poitou-Charentes ). It belonged to the Arrondissement of Poitiers and the canton of Migné-Auxances (until 2015: canton of Mirebeau ).

With effect from January 1, 2019, the former communes of Varennes were integrated into the Commune nouvelle Saint-Martin-la-Pallu , which had been in existence since 2017, and has the status of a Commune déléguée there . The administrative headquarters are in Vendeuvre-du-Poitou.

geography

Varennes is about 22 kilometers north-northeast of Poitiers . Varennes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mirebeau in the north, Thurageau in the east, Blaslay in the south and southeast and Amberre in the west.
