Veit Schalle (2006)

Veit Schalle (born October 24, 1942 in Klagenfurt , Carinthia ; born Veit Slugovc ) is an Austrian politician ( Alliance Future Austria ). Before retiring in 2005, he was a manager in the grocery store.

Career

Veit Schalle started as a retail apprentice in 1957. In 1971 he became managing director of the Merkur grocery chain . From 1979 until his retirement in 2005 he was CEO of BML Holding Austria , which led and expanded the retail stores Billa, Merkur and earlier Mondo (now Penny ) to market leadership. In 1988 he also became the general representative of Karl Wlaschek's Billa Group . He also remained the chairman after the sale of Billa to the German Rewe group. From 2000 to 2004 he was on the supervisory board of ÖIAG . From 1999 to 2001 he was also on the KELAG Supervisory Board .

For the 2006 National Council election , he was number 2 behind Peter Westenthaler on the federal list and BZÖ economics spokesman. In the XXIII. During the legislative period, he then entered the Austrian National Council as one of seven BZÖ mandataries .

Political line

Schalle opposes additional bilingual place-name signs in Carinthia and complains about the alleged preference given to Carinthian Slovenes in schools. Regarding the dispute about local signs , Schalle said verbatim in an interview with the Tiroler Tageszeitung on September 9, 2006: "You are a guest here and should therefore orientate yourself towards Austria instead of fighting for local signs."

In September 2006 he caused a stir in an interview with the news magazine Profil , when asked about Jörg Haider's sayings about the “proper employment policy in the Third Reich”: “I was impressed by the economic program they put up at the time”. However, he also emphasized his clear distancing from the Nazi regime . He added: “Forcing is probably not an option. That can't be a role model ”.

Veit Schalle was married to Janet Kath , owner of the Interio furniture store. He has three grown children from his first marriage.

Name change

When asked about his Slovenian-seeming baptismal name , Schalle said: “I don't have a Slovenian name. Because our pastors are all Slovenes, my name was entered in Slovenian on my baptismal certificate instead of Slugoutz. My grandfather came from northern Germany. "
