The fifth album by the German medieval band In Extremo is adored and spit on . It was released on August 30, 1999 via Mercury Records and reached 11th place in the German album charts.

Subjects of the songs

Herr Mannelig is a newly arranged Swedish song. It is about a mountain troll who asks the knight Mannelig to marry. The song is used in the soundtrack of the 2001 computer game Gothic .

The text of Spielmannsfluch comes from the poem Des Sängers Fluch by Ludwig Uhland . In Extremo something rewrote it and composed the music. The German text tells of a minstrel couple (father with his son) who play a song to an evil king . The king freaks out because he thinks they have blinded his people and is now afraid that they will ask for his wife. In his anger he throws his sword and kills the young man.

Miss Gordon of Gight is a short instrumental piece . Catherine Gordon of Gight was the mother of the poet George Gordon Byron .

The text of Will I be pulled up on the gallows , which (like that of I know everything and Weiberfell ) comes from Paul Zech's adaptation of texts by François Villon , a heretic is pulled up on the gallows by the Inquisition .

This Corrosion is a cover version of the song of the same name by the British rock band The Sisters of Mercy .

Santa Maria is also a traditional song edited by In Extremo. The Mother of God is sung about here.

Vänner och Frände is also a Swedish traditional song whose title is actually Vänner och fränder (in German: "Friends and Relatives").

I know it all stems largely from François Villon's ballad of common idioms .

The title of the album refers to the poem Revered and Spit on by Paul Zech . The poem is also used in the song Before full bowls on the albums Hameln and Weckt die Toten! used.
