The Association for Thuringian History is a German history association based in Jena .

history

The association was founded on January 2, 1852 as an association for Thuringian history and antiquity at the then only university in Thuringia - in Jena. It had its largest membership in 1902 with 538 members. Its activity was discontinued in 1950 and in 1990 under the name Verein für Thüringische Geschichte e. V. resumed. Structurally and personally, it is closely linked to the Historical Institute of the University of Jena , where the office is still located today. Both natural and legal persons (institutions) can become members.

Purpose of the association and activity

According to the statutes, the purpose of the association is to promote "regional and territorial historical research in Thuringia in all of its past and present components, regardless of the course of the national borders and without any time limit." For this purpose he gives in connection Together with the Historical Commission for Thuringia , the scientific journal for Thuringian History (ZThG) is published annually as well as a series of publications as supplements at irregular intervals . The pages of the Association for Thuringian History are published for internal communication .

In addition to regular lecture events in Jena, the Day of Thuringian State History has been held annually at changing locations since 1994 , which is also organized with the Historical Commission for Thuringia and the respective local history associations.

Bodies of the association: The annual general meeting elects the board for three years. This appoints members to the editorial team.

The archivable association documents are in the Jena University Archives. The association is a member of the general association of German history and antiquity associations .
