The administrative community Gerstungen was in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . In it four communities had come together to carry out their administrative business.

The administrative community was founded on January 1st, 1996 by the municipalities of Gerstungen , Lauchröden , Oberellen and Unterellen . Ober- and Unterellen were previously part of the dissolved Eltetal administrative community .

The VG Gerstungen was dissolved on March 15, 2004. With effect from March 16, 2004 the unified municipality of Gerstungen was formed from the member municipalities.
