The Veveyse (dt. Vivisbach , Franco- ) is an approximately 21 km long river in the French-speaking Switzerland , in the cantons of Friborg and Vaud km² with a catchment area of 65. The German name Vivisbach is hardly used outside of Freiburg today.
In its headwaters, which lies on the western slope of the Moléson chain between Teysachaux (1909 m above sea level) and Dent de Lys (2014 m above sea level) in the southwest Friborg Prealps , the brook Veveyse de Châtel is called. It first flows westward through a wooded valley carved into the flysch rock between the pre-alpine mountains Niremont (1514 m above sea level) and Corbetta (1400 m above sea level) and reaches at Châtel-Saint-Denis at 800 m above sea level. M. the plateau of the Haute-Veveyse in the higher plateau . Here the Veveyse de Châtel turns to the south-west and quickly descends into a deep valley. Here, at Mur Blanc ( Corsier-sur-Vevey ), the Veveyse de Fégire joins after a 10 km run from the left . From now on the river will be called Veveyse . At the city center of Vevey (formerly Vivis in German ) this flows into Lake Geneva with an alluvial cone, which is now completely built over .
The only significant tributary is the 8 km long Veveyse de Fégire, which also rises on the western slope of the Moléson chain and in its upper reaches flows westwards parallel to the Veveyse de Châtel. With its torrent-like, deep valley, it forms the canton border between Friborg and Vaud along its entire course. This valley a 100 m high bridge spanning the near Châtel-Saint-Denis, the Viaduc de la Fégire, highway A12 , which Vevey with Bern connects.
In the valley on the upper reaches of the Veveyse de Châtel is located at around 1100 m above sea level. M. the holiday village of Les Paccots , which belongs to the municipality of Châtel-Saint-Denis. It is particularly popular in winter and attracts many skiers with its numerous ski lifts. In summer the area is ideal for beautiful walks.
