Victorino Alvarez Tena

Victorino Alvarez Tena (born March 10, 1920 in Puruándiro , Michoacán , Mexico , † November 4, 1987 ) was a Mexican clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Celaya .

Life

Victorino Alvarez Tena was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Morelia on April 10, 1943 .

Pope John XXIII appointed him on May 24, 1962 as the first bishop of the newly founded diocese of Apatzingán . The Archbishop of Morelia, Mario Pio Gaspari , gave him episcopal ordination on July 25th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were José Abraham Martínez Betancourt , Bishop of Tacámbaro , and Alfonso Sánchez Tinoco , Bishop of Papantla .

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on February 14, 1974 first bishop of the diocese of Celaya, established in October 1973 .
