The largest city in the diocese is Poza Rica .

history

The diocese Papantla was on November 24, 1922 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Orbis catholici from cessions of territory of the dioceses Ciudad Victoria-Tamaulipas and Veracruz-Jalapa . On June 9, 1962, the Diocese of Papantla were parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution latet Non erected Diocese of Tuxpan from.

The Diocese of Papantla is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Jalapa as a suffragan .
