Viera Blech is a brass band from Tyrol founded in 2004 . The group's style is characterized by their own compositions, supplemented by interpretations of pop songs. She plays arrangements of well-known brass music literature through to songs from pop, rock and other genres. The formation consists exclusively of studied musicians who work as instrumental teachers or freelance artists. The band leader is Martin Scharnagl .

Origin of name

Viera Blech originally consisted of four musicians. The name of the group is derived from this. "Viera" is a word from the Tyrolean dialect for the number four , while "Blech" describes the line-up that consisted of four brass instruments at the time. The founding members are Martin Scharnagl (tuba), Bernhard Achhorner (trumpet), Michael Schweinester (trumpet) and Helmut Gründler (tenor horn).

Band history

Viera Blech was founded in 2004 in Kössen . The musicians, all from Tyrol and Salzburg, got to know each other through studying music. When the first three-day concert tour to Germany was imminent in May 2006 , two more musicians were added: trombonist Alois Eberl from Oberndorf and drummer Christian Bernert from Reith im Alpbachtal . In the autumn of 2006, the first sound carrier, “Junge Kameraden”, was released in cooperation with the record company MCP . It was produced in the in-house recording studio . At the same time, the Salzburg trumpeter Alexander Wartner, who was just beginning his music studies in Innsbruck, joined the group and made his debut on this CD. In February 2007, an invitation to the Musikantenstadl in Switzerland followed, where the group took second place as a young artist. A foreign appearance took place in "Tirol Berg" as part of the 2007 Ski World Cup in Åre, Sweden .

Michael Schweinester, Helmut Gründler and Christian Bernert left the group in March 2007. The replacement was then made with the tuba player Josef Hofer from Oberndorf near Kitzbühel and the trombonist Simon Wildauer from the Zillertal . The latter was only there for a year. In spring 2008 the trombonist Peter Strele from Mutters , who studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, was accepted. At the “Bohemian Sounds” competition in April 2008, in which international brass music greats such as Vlado Kumpan were on the jury, Viera Blech took second place with her own compositions and arrangements. In summer 2008 the second CD in-house production followed, Made in Tirol.

In 2009, in addition to appearances in Austria, concert tours to Belgium, Holland, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Denmark followed. In summer 2009 the third CD, "laTyrolian Story", was released in collaboration with the record company Tyrolis . From January 2009 to spring 2011, trumpeter Herbert Zimmermann, who is a professional musician in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Munich, was with Viera Blech. In 2010 the founding member Bernhard Achhorner left the band and was replaced for one year by Hannes Oblasser from East Tyrol. In spring 2011 there was another line-up change.

Viera Blech has performed there every year since the first Woodstock of brass music in 2011.

At the beginning of January 2012 the group released their fourth CD "Der Bär groovt". The album was produced by the musicians in the recording studio, the distribution is carried out by the record company Tyrolis. On February 8, 2014, on the occasion of the ten-year anniversary, the fifth album "10 Years" was released, which was produced by the musicians themselves. The albums “Neuewege” and “Priority” and “Serious?” Followed every two years.
