Vietnam is an Australian mini-series released in 1987 . Directed by John Duigan and Chris Noonan , who also wrote the script with Terry Hayes .

Plot and characters

The miniseries shows the Australian Goddard family during the Vietnam War . Douglas Goddard advises the country's prime minister. His son Phil takes part in the fighting as a soldier. His daughter Megan, initially a teenager, loves to party at parties. She sleeps with a man who is betrayed by her.

Serge, a friend of Megan's, refuses to be drafted into the army. Megan becomes an anti-war activist. She is on a radio show about the Vietnam War while speaking to a caller who participated in the fighting. Only after a while does she understand that she is talking to Phil, who the experiences have changed a lot.

Background and reviews

The miniseries was filmed in Holsworthy, New South Wales and Thailand .

Michael Kohler wrote in his biography Nicole Kidman that the "ambitious" miniseries "became a national television event" and made Kidman famous in Australia. Your presentation is "moving" ; the actress herself described the role in an interview as her "greatest challenge" . She developed her own version of Method Acting and devoted a lot of time to the preparations.

Awards

Nicole Kidman received the Australian Film Institute Award in 1988 . She and the miniseries received the Australian Logie Award in 1988 .
