Victor Emanuel of Savoy (born  February 12, 1937 in Naples ; full name Vittorio Emanuele Alberto Carlo Teodoro Umberto Bonifacio Amadeo Damiano Bernardino Gennaro Maria di Savoia ) was the last Crown Prince of the Italian Kingdom and head of the House of Savoy until July 7, 2006 . Italian monarchists refer to him as Vittorio Emanuele IV .

Life

His father was Umberto II , Prince of Piedmont , the last Italian king, his mother was Princess Marie José of Belgium , daughter of King Albert I of Belgium . Victor Emanuel lived outside Italy for most of his life, as Italy became a republic after the 1946 referendum , banning male members of the Italian royal family from staying in the country. Viktor Emanuel spent his childhood in Switzerland ( Geneva ) and Portugal .

During his exile, he was the subject of heated controversy for showing understanding of racial legislation in Fascist Italy . Viktor Emanuel acted as a representative for armaments products and was a banker.

At the end of the 1980s he was sentenced to six months' probation for illegal possession of weapons in connection with the shooting of an uninvolved German in a dispute on Île de Cavallo (Corsica) in 1978 ; In 2006 he is said to have made a confession. The person killed was Dirk Hamer, the son of Ryke Geerd Hamer , who later hit the headlines with his so-called "Germanic New Medicine".

In March 2002, Victor Emmanuel returned to Italy with his family after the country's constitution was changed.

He was arrested in June 2006 in connection with an investigation by the Potenza Public Prosecutor's Office into corruption, forgery and exploitation of prostitutes . Viktor Emanuel's cousin Simeon von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha was also involved in the case.

As a result of the scandal, Victor Emanuel was deposed as head of the House of Savoy and replaced by his cousin Amadeus of Savoy . As a reason, however, his not befitting wedding was given. Therefore, the son who emerged from this marriage is also excluded from the "line of succession".

Viktor Emanuel was on a list of members of the secret box P2 (Propaganda 2), which had been created by Licio Gelli . He is married to Marina Ricolfi Doria , whom he married in 1970 in Las Vegas and a year later in church in Tehran ; the couple has a son Emanuele Filiberto (* 1972).

In November 2007, Victor Emanuel of Savoy and his son officially announced a claim for compensation of 260 million euros against the Italian state and demanded the restitution of all assets confiscated when the Italian republic was founded. The claim for damages was based on reparation for the moral injustice that had been done to him and his son Emanuel Philibert during their exile. The demand, from which the remaining members of the House of Savoy distanced themselves, met with fierce criticism. The Italian government stated in a statement that not only did the Italian state owe nothing to the House of Savoy , on the contrary, the Italian state reserved the right to file a claim for damages against the House of Savoy because of its serious responsibility during fascism .
