The Villa Sauermann in Südergraben 47, in Flensburg - Friesischer Berg is one of the city's cultural monuments . It should not be confused with the Villa Sauermann of the same name at Friedrichstrasse 41, located in the same district .

background

The villa was built in 1884 by the Kiel architect Heinrich Moldenschardt on the western slope of the city for Heinrich Sauermann . The one-storey yellow brick building facing the street has two storeys on the slope side away from the street. Sgraffiti - frieze with portrait medallion of the masters of the German Renaissance (on the left): Albrecht Dürer , Brüggemann , Hans Holbein the Elder and Wenzel Jamnitzer as well as masters of the Neo-Renaissance (on the right): Karl Friedrich Schinkel , Gottfried Semper , Heinrich von Ferstel and Heinrich Moldenschardt who built the villa. On the north side of the villa, a two-storey yellow stone installation was added in 1890 based on a design by master carpenter Boy Willandsen, which today is at Südergraben 45. This building housed Heinrich Sauermann's college for cabinet makers and sculptors. In 1975 the Villa Sauermann was converted into a law firm. A visually matching weather vane on the roof illustrates this use of the building, which is still used today. A memorial plaque attached today reminds us that Heinrich Sauermann lived and worked in the building.
