Vincent Oskar Ludwig

Vinzenz Oskar Ludwig (born June 18, 1875 in Nieder- Hillersdorf , Austrian Silesia ; † January 22, 1959 in Langenzersdorf ) was a Klosterneuburg Augustinian canon , high school professor, collegiate librarian , priest , historian, writer and poet.

Life

Ludwig graduated from the grammar school in Olomouc and then joined the Augustinian Canons of Klosterneuburg in 1894 . In 1901 he was appointed lecturer for church history and patristics at the philosophical-theological home school in Klosterneuburg. From 1929 he was the parish priest of Korneuburg . Because he baptized 446 Jews from February 7th to September 24th 1938 and enabled them to be rescued by converting because they were able to obtain exit documents, he was arrested by the Gestapo and removed from his post. After his release he became rector of the church on Leopoldsberg .

Since 1928 he was a member of the Catholic German Burschenschaft (KDB) Rheno-Danubia zu Vienna in the RKDB (since 1965 CAB Rheno-Danubia zu Vienna in the RKAB ).

Ludwig wrote numerous historical treatises. In his book “The Leopoldsberg: Landscape, History, Legends, Art u. Literature “, folk liturgy. Verlag 1939, he comes to the conclusion that Marco d'Aviano read the famous mass of September 12, 1683 before the battle of the Kahlenberg on the Leopoldsberg and not on the Kahlenberg .

Ludwig is buried in Langenzersdorf, where he also spent his old age.
