Viruddh (translated: opposites ; tagline : family comes first ) is a Bollywood film that questions the Indian judiciary. The acting was highly praised by critics, but the film failed to convince at the box office and flopped.
action
Vidhyadar and Sumitra are an elderly couple who lead a simple life. With everything that goes with it: walks, arguments and medication. When the mechanic Ali disturbs the peace of the house with his noise, he is reprimanded by Sumitra and soon becomes a friend of the house.
After hearing about their son's visit from London , the couple are overjoyed. He also brings his girlfriend Jenny with him. Although she hardly speaks Hindi , his parents immediately take her to their hearts. After a small ceremony, the young happiness is also married.
But the happiness is short-lived: Amar witnesses how the son of Chief Minister Hashwardhan Kadam shoots a woman he has impregnated. Amar intervenes and is shot dead in battle. The minister himself does everything to keep his own vest clean and to protect his son. The corrupt police deny the case and portray Amar as a drug dealer. Vidhyadar is outraged and takes a fight against the judiciary. A fight that costs all of your energy and resources. His last hope to clear the table and remove all the lies from the world is to coax the truth from the actual killer. Vidhyadar records the murderer's testimony with a dictation machine and then shoots him.
Vidhyadar is being taken away by the police. Nevertheless, he managed to shake up the judicial system. The court apologizes to Vidhyadar and he is released after serving in prison. Reunited, the family has finally found peace again.

criticism
"On the shoulders of all these actors," Viruddh "flourishes into a film that is well worth seeing. In terms of content, too, it is not without, be it in the absolutely sympathetic first half or when it does not cast a very favorable light on the Indian judiciary. Some things are exaggerated, others are unfortunately believable in their diabolical mechanics. Especially thanks to the actors. "(From molodezhnaja.ch)
Others
- Saif Ali Khan was supposed to play the role of Amar, but had to cancel at short notice, so John Abraham stepped in.
- Bipasha Basu , then girlfriend of actor John Abraham, made a brief appearance in the scene in which Amar recounts how he met Jenny.
