Visegrad Cup

The Visegrad Cup is an international ice hockey competition held jointly by the Slovak and Hungarian ice hockey associations . It has been played since 2017, and teams from Poland and the Czech Republic have also been taking part since 2019. The competition is named after the Visegrád states for the four participating countries.

Event 2017/18

The first three teams from the Hungarian-Romanian MOL league, the only Hungarian representative in the Austrian EBEL and four teams from Slovakia took part, including the runner-up Nitra.

A preliminary round was played with a group of Hungarian teams and a group of Slovak representatives. Each team in the Hungarian group met a team from the Slovak group four times. A separate table was created for each group from the results. The games took place in the preparatory phase in August 2017. After that, all teams played in the quarter-finals (October 4th and 10th / 11th 2017), with the first of each group playing against the fourth of the other group, the second against the third of the other group. This was followed by the semi-finals (November 14 and 28, 2017) and the final (January 10 and 23, 2018), all with a return leg.

Event 2019/20

Teams from Poland and the Czech Republic also took part in the third edition of the competition. A preliminary round was played in two groups, in which each team met each other team once. The preliminary round was played in August and September 2019. All teams qualified for quarter-finals in October 2019, where the first of Group A met fourth of Group B and so on. The semi-finals followed in November 2019 and the final in January 2020, all with a return leg.
