The Vitol Group, with headquarters in Rotterdam (Netherlands) and Geneva (Switzerland), is an international raw materials trading company; the group was founded in 1966 and, alongside Glencore and Gunvor, is the largest global commodities trader and world market leader. In 2015, the company traded approximately 303 million tons of oil (derivatives) and natural gas with sales of 168 billion US dollars . In addition, a volume of 102 TWh of electricity was converted.

The main business locations are concentrated in Geneva , Houston , Singapore and London . In addition to global commodity sales and oil product trading , the company has a growing presence in the natural gas , energy , emissions and biofuels markets.

Vitol has stakes in various oil storage , prospecting and production projects around the world. The latter includes a stake in Arawak , with productions in Russia , Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan , a stake in the Galoc oil field , Philippines and prospecting in the Congo and Ghana .

In 1995 the annual profit was 23 million US dollars and could be increased to 1.5 billion US dollars by 2017.

In addition to offices in Dubai and Bahrain , the main strategic facility is the Fujairah Refinery Company Limited (FRCL) in the UAE, which comprises 82,000 barrels per refining day and 461,000 cubic meters of storage. FRCL is planning significant developments such as expanding the deposit to 564,000 cubic meters, refurbishing existing refining facilities and installing additional processing facilities. Vitol has a stake in the Cressier refinery in Switzerland through Varo Energy and a 45% stake in Bayernoil with a refinery in Germany.

In February 2014, Vitol took over Shell's downstream business in Australia for 2.6 billion US dollars . In addition to the refinery in Geelong , the purchase included 870 filling stations and business areas in the bitumen and chemicals sector. However, the Aviation division and the lubricant plant in Brisbane as well as the entire upstream division were excluded from the purchase.

In 2017 Vitol took over OMV's stake in the Turkish Petrol Ofisi .
