Vladimir Magdić (born March 6, 1931 in Dubrovnik ; † May 13, 2011 in Hanover ) was a sculptor , illustrator , painter and draftsman born in what was then Yugoslavia and today's Croatia .

Life

After graduating from high school, Vladimir Magdić began studying sculpture at the Zagreb Art Academy in 1950 . During this time he completed his traineeship in Walter Neugebauer's studio Duga , "the founder of the Zagreb school". Here, he learned so "in passing" his own words, the techniques of comic -Zeichnens and cartoon animation. In 1955 Magdić completed his studies with a diploma and in the same year was accepted into the Croatian artists' association Hrvatsko društvo likovnih umjetnika . Soon afterwards the sculptor sent his first exhibitions.

In 1956 Vladimir Magdić moved to Munich together with the “Neugebauer Group” to draw comics and cartoons for Rolf Kauka . Magdić met his future wife Inge at Kazier Verlag .

In 1969 the Magdić family moved to the then Hanoverian district of Buchholz (today: Groß-Buchholz ) in order to restore the Buchenhof "with like-minded idealistic family members" and some friends . Under the artistic guidance of Vladimir Magdić, the gable of the main house was first highlighted again. One result of the work was the second prize in the facade competition of the city of Hanover in 1974 as well as numerous publications, including in the annual calendar on the high bank . Later, the outbuildings of the Buchenhof were restored as well as the elderly divider, which is inhabited by the Magdić family .

This resulted in the historic farmhouse on the artist House of Inge repurposed and "Vlado" Magdic building "behind Ebeling Tenne " cartoon characters like Fix and Foxi , Tom and small beaver heart , Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck or Asterix and Obelix , but also the animated Mainzelmännchen for the ZDF . In Groß-Buchholz, however, works such as watercolors , drawings, graphics and art prints were also made that were accessible to visitors to the Groß-Buchholz Künstlerhaus.

Vladimir Magdić was a member of the artist group NEXUS and in 1986 became a member of the Association of Visual Artists (BBK), in whose exhibitions he participated several times.

Vladimir Magdić died at the age of 80. The funeral service took place on May 20, 2011 at the Lahe city cemetery .

The graphic studio Magdić at Groß-Buchholzer Kirchweg 66 in Hanover has today converted his wife Ingeborg Magdić into a “ museum ”.
