Volker Kress

Volker Kreß (born July 25, 1939 in Dresden ) is a Lutheran theologian . From 1994 to 2004 he was regional bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony .

Live and act

Volker Kreß comes from a family of craftsmen in Dresden. After attending school, he began an apprenticeship as a businessman. In the early 1960s he studied theology in Leipzig .

After passing his exams, Volker Kreß became a pastor in Stollberg in the Ore Mountains in 1969 . In 1973 he was appointed regional youth pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Regional Church of Saxony. He then became superintendent of the Bautzen church district in 1979 .

On his 50th birthday, he received the Silver Pin of Honor of the National Front . In 1989 Volker Kreß was first senior church councilor, then higher regional church councilor in the regional church office in Dresden . He held this position until 1994.

In 1994, Volker Kreß was elected to succeed Johannes Hempel as regional bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony. One of the main activities during his tenure was accompanying the reconstruction of the Dresden Frauenkirche . In June 2004 he was replaced by Jochen Bohl . Today he lives in retirement.

Volker Kreß is married and has one child.
