The Vordere Graben is a right tributary of the Altmühl in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen .

The front ditch rises at a height of 454  m above sea level. NN at the east foot of the Hahnenkamm northwest of Markt Berolzheim . Most of the time, the stream flows steadily in an east-north-easterly direction alongside dirt roads and crosses a wide open landscape in the Altmühl valley . It passes under the State Road 2230 and the Würzburg-Treuchtlingen railway line . The Vordere Graben opens after a run of around 2 kilometers at an altitude of 410  m above sea level. NN northeast of Markt Berolzheim and southwest of Trommetsheim from the right into a small branch of the Altmühl. Not far opposite on the other side of the Altmühl, the Lüßgraben flows into an old arm .
