The WFCU Center (full name: Windsor Family Credit Union Center ) is a multi-purpose hall in the Canadian city of Windsor , province of Ontario . The hall is owned by the city and was u. a. built as the venue for the ice hockey team of the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and replaced the Windsor Arena from 1924 as the home of the Spitfires in 2008 .
history
Construction began with the groundbreaking on January 22, 2007. Around two years later, the multi-purpose arena , which cost 72.1 million CAD , was opened on December 11, 2008. The building bears the sponsorship name of the Windsor Family Credit Union (WFCU), a resident of Windsor credit union . It pays CAD 1.6 million over ten years. The Windsor Spitfires have played their games at the WFCU Center since it opened. The basketball team of the Windsor Express of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) has also been based in the hall since 2012 .
The hall has 6,500 seats, 632 of which are Platinum Club Premium seats. The 31 private suites are equipped with a total of 434 seats. The restaurant has 123 seats with a view of the interior and two large suites with 30 seats each. There are 1,850 parking spaces for cars and 37 disabled parking spaces around the WFCU Center.
From December 6th to 11th, 2016, the Center will host the World Short Course Championships . A temporary swimming pool was specially installed in the ice arena for this purpose.
