Scales (symbol)

The scales , usually in the form of the beam scales , symbolize the right to market , as it was transferred to places and towns by decree of the feudal lord .

The balance has a different meaning, especially because of its symmetrical appearance when equilibrium is reached, as a symbol of justice and as an attribute of Justitia . Here it is used as a special recognition mark, and in a figurative sense, balance and neutrality have been made the property of the beam balance.

heraldry

As a symbol of trade or justice, the balance beam has been included in the coats of arms of many places and is thus a common figure in heraldry (here mostly simply referred to as a scale ). The explanations for the description of the coat of arms ( blazon ) do not always reveal the exact reason for the choice of symbol.

For example, the places Brelingen , Hagenbüchach , Hefersweiler , Kelberg , Klingenmünster , Lindlar , Malberg , Neroth , Niederstadtfeld , Oberhaid , Offstein , Rimbach , Rockeskyll , Steimel , Strohn and Wagenhausen TG have scales in their coat of arms. In Grafenhausen and Oberweißbach the scales are related to Justitia .
