The guard regiment " Hugo Eberlein " , also guard regiment 2 (WR-2) was responsible for the direct military security and guarding of the Ministry for National Defense (MfNV) of the GDR and many troops, units, camp facilities, etc. directly subordinate to the ministry Lambert-Horn-Kaserne (today Barnim-Kaserne) stationed in Strausberg near Berlin.

assignment

The WR-2 was used to secure facilities and buildings of the MfNV in Strausberg-Nord. Objects in Berlin were also guarded until 1962. This unit was directly subordinate to the MfNV. The disciplinary superior was the deputy of the chief of the main staff for general tasks in the MfNV.

history

The WR-2 emerged in 1956 from the guard regiment of the main training administration of the barracked people's police . It bore the honorary name of the communist Hugo Eberlein , who was a victim of the Stalinist purges .

Until 1962, three honorary companies for purely protocol tasks belonged to this unit . These were detached in 1962 and placed under the newly formed Friedrich Engels Guard Regiment .

The members of the WR-2 wore a cuff with the embroidery "NVA guard regiment", which, in contrast to the Friedrich Engels guard regiment, encompassed the entire sleeve.

With the decommissioning of the NVA in 1990, this unit was disbanded. The legal successor was the Bundeswehr Command East of the Bundeswehr.
