Alfred Vogel (General)
Alfred Vogel (born February 23, 1930 in Chemnitz ; † August 11, 2019 ) was a lieutenant general of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic .
Life and career
Alfred Vogel was born into a working-class family in Chemnitz. There he obtained the partial Abitur in basic subjects and learned the profession of office clerk from 1944 to 1948. In 1946 he became a member of the SPD and later switched to the SED . After completing his apprenticeship, Vogel worked for the Deutsche Reichsbahn .
Military career
Education and Uses
Alfred Vogel joined the armed organs of the GDR as a volunteer applicant on June 9, 1949 , completed an officer training course and embarked on a career as a political officer . So he became the deputy commander for political work at the Volkspolizeischule in Torgau and then the VP office in Meiningen. From 1952 to 1954 he was senior instructor for political work , deputy to the head of political work and then head of the political work department for special objects in the main staff of the Barracked People's Police , the predecessor organization of the later NVA defense ministry .
From 1954 to 1955, Vogel attended the Politoffizier-Schule in Berlin-Treptow, the forerunner of the later military political college "Wilhelm Pieck" of the NVA in Berlin-Grünau . He then returned to the CIP main staff in Strausberg and was employed as an inspection officer in the Political Administration / Organization Department until 1956 .
From 1956 to 1958 troops were deployed as deputy commander for political work in the newly established Hugo Eberlein guard regiment in the Barnim barracks in Strausberg. This was followed by assignments as senior instructor, head of department and department head in the Political Headquarters (PHV) of the MfNV, which had just been created , until 1962 .
From 1963 to 1965 he was commanded to study at the Friedrich Engels Military Academy in Dresden.
Service as a general
After completing his studies, Colonel Vogel was head of the political instruction department in the PHV of the MfNV from 1965 to 1973 . On November 2, 1970, he was appointed major general .
In 1973 he was appointed Deputy Head of LSK / LV and Head of Political Administration in the LSK / LV command . At the same time he was chairman of the ASV Forward of the Air Force / Air Defense. On October 7, 1979, Alfred Vogel was promoted to lieutenant general. When he reached the special age limit, he was retired on February 28, 1990.
