Wachtlau , also Wachtelau , Wachtellohe , was a district of the former municipality of Amselfing and is now a desert in the municipality of Aiterhofen in the Lower Bavarian district of Straubing-Bogen .

The place was 1.4 kilometers to the north of the Ackerhof district of Straßkirchen and two kilometers southwest of Ainbrach on an old road between Hunderdorf and Lehmbuch . Wachtelau is still used as a field name , also quail wood for a forest area on the former floodplain .

history

In the 1961 census, one residential building and two residents were found; at the 1970 census date the place was uninhabited, and there has been no data on the location since the documentation for the 1987 census. From this it can be concluded that the place was abandoned between 1961 and 1970.

The origin of the name is obvious, since a survey of species of importance to the district on the Red Lists found the bird species quail here .

religion

In 1864 seven of the 18 inhabitants are Mennonites . Together with twelve Mennonites in Irlbach , these two places housed all 19 people of this denomination in the Straubing district office at that time . Possibly it was a family settlement of Amish or so-called Palatinate Mennonites from Alsace or the Palatinate, invited by King Max I. Josef . There were comparably more extensive settlements in the Donaumoos near Neuburg / Donau in the village of Maxweiler .
