The constituency of Galicia 36 was a constituency for the elections to the House of Representatives in the Austrian crown land of Galicia . The electoral district was created in 1907 with the introduction of the Reichsrat election regulations and existed until the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy .

history

After the Reichsrat had decided on the general, equal, secret and direct male suffrage in autumn 1906, the major reform of the electoral law through the sanctioning of Emperor Franz Joseph I came into effect on January 26, 1907 . With the new Reichsrat election order, a total of 516 electoral districts were created, with one member being elected in each constituency with the exception of Galicia in the course of the Reichsrat election. Two MPs were elected in the rural district constituencies of Galicia. The first MP had to prevail in the first or second ballot with an absolute majority, the second with 25%. If the first MP won with over 50% but no second with 25%, then there was the next round of voting with only two candidates. If none won 50% in the second ballot, then there was a runoff with three candidates, where two best MPs were elected.

The constituency of Galicia 36 comprised the judicial districts of Biała (Biala) , Kęty (Kenty) , Oświęcim (Auschwitz) (with the city of the same name) and Andrychów (Andrichau) , with the exception of the following municipalities:

From the Imperial Council election in 1907 went Ludwig Dobija and Stanisław Hanusiak the winner, both from the associated domains of Stanisław Stojałowski Polish short-lived Party Center (Polskie Centrum Ludowe). His opponents were the socialist Daniel (Baruch) Gross, a lawyer of Jewish origin from Biała ( Ignacy Daszyński became the socialist candidate from the second ballot onwards ), Jan Kubik ( Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe ), and Franciszek Kramarczyk, a former member of the Galician state parliament.

Ludwig Dobija and Jan Kubik won again in the 1911 Reichsrat election . Ludwig Dobija and Stanisław Stohandel (from Bielitz) represent the so-called Antiblok in this election , because Jan Kubik and the poorly known Antoni Śmieszek represent the PSL. His opponents were also Adolf Poniński, a school director from Kobiernice , socialist Leon Misiołek from Kraków and poorly known Pawica .
