List of constituencies in the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria
This list of electoral districts in the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria lists all the electoral districts in the Crown Land of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria for the elections of the Austrian House of Representatives . The constituencies existed between 1907 and 1918.
history
After the Reichsrat had decided on the general, equal, secret and direct male suffrage in autumn 1906, the major reform of the electoral law through the sanctioning of Emperor Franz Joseph I came into effect on January 26, 1907 . With the new Reichsrat election regulations, a total of 480 electoral districts were created, each with one member to be elected, who was determined by direct election with a possible runoff. In Galicia and Lodomeria, there were 78 constituencies before the abolition of class suffrage , with the cities sending 13 members, the rural communities 27, the large landowners 20, the general voter class 15 and the chambers of commerce and industry sending 3 members.
With the introduction of universal male suffrage, 70 constituencies were created in Galicia and Lodomeria, with the Poles in constituencies 1-50 and 52, 64 and 67 and the Ruthenians in constituencies 51 and 53-63, 65-66, 68-70 Majority. In addition to the 7 city constituencies for Lviv, 5 for Kraków, one each for five other cities, Przemyśl, Stanislau, Tarnopol, Tarnów and Kolomea, there were 17 other city constituencies in which the eligible voters of a number of cities, markets and municipalities existed, and there were 36 rural municipality constituencies which in turn consisted of a certain number of judicial districts without the municipalities of the city constituencies. The rural community constituencies, on the other hand, are made up of a certain number of judicial districts, with some rural community constituencies being assigned to other constituencies due to the majority language of the population. The population of Galicia in 1910 was composed of 58.6 percent Polish speakers, 40.2 percent Ruthenian speakers and 1.1 percent German speakers. Because of the mixture of languages, two members of parliament were elected in all rural district constituencies in order to allow representation for the Polish and Ruthenian parts of the population.
