List of electoral districts in the Archduchy of Austria under the Enns

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list of electoral districts in the Archduchy of Austria under the Enns lists all electoral districts in the Crown Land of Austria under the Enns ( Lower Austria ) for the elections of the Austrian House of Representatives . The constituencies existed between 1907 and 1918.

history

After the Reichsrat had decided on the general, equal, secret and direct male suffrage in autumn 1906, the major reform of the electoral law through the sanctioning of Emperor Franz Joseph I came into effect on January 26, 1907 . With the new Reichsrat election regulations, a total of 480 electoral districts were created, each with one member to be elected, who was determined by direct election with a possible runoff. In Lower Austria, a total of 46 members were sent to the House of Representatives before the abolition of the class electoral law, with the cities having 19 members (12 from Vienna), the rural communities eight, the general electoral class nine, the landowners eight and the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and Industry two members . With the introduction of universal male suffrage, 64 electoral districts were created under the Enns in Austria. In addition to the 33 city constituencies for Vienna, there were subsequently ten further city constituencies in which the eligible voters of a number of cities and markets were combined. The rural community constituencies consisted of a certain number of judicial districts.

Austria under the was dominated in the elections in 1907 and 1911 mainly by the Christian Social Party and the Social Democrats. While the Christian Socials still made up around two thirds of the MPs after the Reichsrat election in 1907, Social Democrats and Christian Socials each received almost 40% of the seats in the 1911 election. The rest was divided between various German national groups and a few independents or compromise candidates.
