action

The unsuccessful actor Josh Silver, who keeps his head above water with roles in commercials and whose biggest appearance as a candlestick in a Disney parade was long ago, is harassed by his wife Gail, who wants to have a child with him. But he has erectile dysfunction due to his lack of success . But then he receives a call from his agent who has got him an audition with his greatest idol Woody Allen.

When he goes to the occupation office the next day, the porter of the office building does not let him in because he does not have him on the list. Josh manages to get past the porter with a trick, but when he follows him, there is a scramble in front of the occupation office, in which Josh's jacket is torn. But the receptionist has him on the list and so he can enter.

Other people are already gathered in the anteroom to Allen's office, a somewhat fat man, a pretty woman and a skinny boy who is accompanied by his mother and who looks as if he could portray the director's younger self in his next film. A Polaroid is made of Josh , on which he looks pretty stupid, but he is denied the chance of a second picture. So he gets the concentrated load of film business presented, because while the unknown small actors only get a short chance to introduce themselves, the stars get preferential treatment. He sees Jennifer Aniston, who gets snowed into the office because she forgot her bag, and recognizes Josh, but only because one of his dogs, which he did during one of his numerous odd jobs, bit hers. George Clooney also comes to visit and the director has a lot more time for him.

Finally, it's Josh's turn and enters the office. After only 15 seconds he is back outside and cannot believe that Allen should have got to know him sufficiently in such a short time. When he is back down in the lobby, he takes courage and wants to go up again to help his luck a little. Finally, Jennifer Aniston was allowed into the office a second time. But the porter doesn't want to let him go. He cheats his way through a second time and finally stands in front of Allen's office door, furious. Standing in front of the door, he hurls all his anger at him. He goes back satisfied.

Disaffected, Josh wants to distract himself and watch a Marx Brothers film . But the cinema shows something completely different, a film about what he has just experienced. However, the screen shows the events very differently, the way it should have gone. The doorman is friendly, Josh is on the list, he is treated like a star in the office and he talks to Woody for over half an hour, who can persuade him to work together on his next two films. Finally he sleeps with his wife, but then he realizes that it is Woody Allen who has sex with Gail. He talks to his screen self, which tells him that's what he wants: to be like Woody Allen.

When Josh comes home in the evening, he's happy, even if he doesn't get the role. Sex with his wife works again and they have a child. And finally he got the role and looks confidently to an audition with Martin Scorsese .
