Walkmühle is a residential area in the Dranse district of the city of Wittstock / Dosse in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district in the state of Brandenburg .

location

The residential area is northeast of the village center and extends along the southwestern shore of the Great Baal Lake . Another residential development is located east of the Großer Müritzsee . This is a tributary from the Griebsee located to the south , which is initially dammed in the village in an artificially created mill pond and then flows north into the Kleiner Baalsee .

history

Not much is known about the history of the residential area. It is certain that a fulling mill for the Wittstock cloth makers was built on the Kleiner Baalsee in 1705 . The facility, which was converted into a grain mill in 1855, burned down in 1871 after a dust explosion . The mill was not rebuilt until 1880.

During the GDR era, a weekend settlement was built along the Great Baalsee. In 1962 a restaurant opened in the village, which closed in 1989.
