Ader began his racing career in 1936. This was soon interrupted by the Second World War. After the war he started in 1946 for the first time in a run of the AAA National Series - one of the predecessor series of today's Champ Car Series , whose championship also included the Indianapolis 500 . In the 1947 season Ader took part in a total of ten runs of the series and was able to win the race in Atlanta . In total, he reached 380 points this year and was 13th in the final ranking.
Since the 500 miles from Indianapolis were also part of the Formula 1 World Championship between 1950 and 1960 , Walt Ader drove a single F1 World Championship run. Ader started the race on May 30, 1950 with a Rae- Offenhauser , reported by Sampson Manufacturing Co. , from 29th place on the grid and reached 22nd place, 15 laps behind the winner, Johnnie Parsons . The race was stopped on lap 138 due to the persistent rain.
