Walter Heise (music teacher)

Walter Heise (born August 28, 1931 in Obernbeck ; † January 3, 2017 in Belm ) was a German music teacher and scholar .

Life

Heise studied in Osnabrück (inter alia with Kurt Sydow ), Berlin (inter alia with Boris Blacher , Karl Heinz Taubert , Günther Baum), London and Münster and received the Stresemann scholarship endowed with 15,000 DM by the Berlin Senate, with which he spent a year in England could research. After completing his studies, he first worked as a teacher at elementary schools and as an assistant and lecturer at various universities. From 1974 until his retirement in 1998, Heise taught music education as a full professor at the University of Osnabrück . In addition to comparative work on music pedagogical writings from the GDR, a special focus was his work on historical music pedagogy and John Gay'sThe Beggar's Opera ” and its adaptations, as well as the research focus “Music and New Technologies” in teacher training.

In 1986 Heise was awarded the “Honorary Fellowship” of the Curwen Institute in London (Great Britain).

Publications

Heise has presented numerous publications on teaching practice as well as articles on the history and systematics of music education in manuals and magazines. The musicologist is one of the founders and editors of the “ Zeitschrift für Musikpädagogik ” (ZfMP) and the “Lexikons der Musikpädagogik” (1972/1984). Heise is also the editor of the "Source Texts for Music Education".
