life and work

Waler Kalott received his artistic training at the State Academy for Art and Applied Arts in Breslau and at the University of the Arts in Berlin-Charlottenburg . His teachers included Otto Mueller and Emil Orlik . His attempt to build up an existence in Berlin ended when he was drafted into the Wehrmacht .

During the Second World War , Kalot was captured by the Soviets , from which he was only released in 1950. Then he found a job with AEG in Berlin . Here he rose to the position of chief graphic designer with his own staff and thus shaped the image of AEG for many years.

Kalot found a second home in Oberstdorf while he was working in Berlin. In the Alpgaustraße he built a house with a studio, gallery and a large garden. After retiring from professional life, Kalot moved to Oberstdorf and continued to work as a freelance artist. For Oberstdorf he created numerous works that show his versatility. It ranges from painting the façade of the old town hall to realistic busts and depictions of animals to modern sculptures. However , a sculpture created for the origin of the Iller did not find the approval of the municipal council . It was initially set up in a Oberstdorf park and only moved to the location planned by Kalot in 2005.

He died in 1996 and was buried in the Oberstdorf forest cemetery.
