Walter Link

Walter Link (born July 21, 1937 in Siegen , † January 15, 2010 in Wehrbleck ) was a German politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school with subsequent skilled worker training as a former and four years of military service with the Air Force in Oldenburg , Link was trained as a deacon of the Westphalian deacon institute Nazareth in Bethel near Bielefeld . The active competitive athlete then trained as a state-recognized sports teacher at the German Sports University in Cologne . From 1968 to 1978 Link was an employee of the von Bodelschwingh institutions in Freistatt . There he founded the SV Freistatt and took care of the construction of a sports hall. During this time, from 1971 to 1974, he completed part-time training as a state-recognized educator at the University of Applied Sciences for Social Pedagogy of the Stephansstift in Hanover .

Walter Link was married to the special needs teacher Ursula Link and lived in Wehrbleck ( district of Diepholz ). He was buried in Bielefeld.

Working in politics and society

From 1956 Link was a member of the CDU. From 1973 to 1999 he was chairman of the CDU district association Diepholz . From 1976 to 2005 he was a member of the district council of the Diepholz district and from 1978 to 1983 of the Lower Saxony state parliament . In 1982 he was appointed spokesman for social and health policy in the CDU parliamentary group.

From 1983 to 2005 he was a member of the German Bundestag . From 1987 to 1992 he was chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group in the committee for youth, family, women and health and from March 1993 to 1994 chairman of the committee for family and senior citizens. He was then chairman of the Enquête Commission on Demographic Change until 2002 .

Walter Link moved into the Bundestag in 1983, 1987, 1990 and 1994 as a directly elected member of the Diepholz constituency and in 1998 and 2002 via the Lower Saxony state list .

From 2006 to 2009 Link was chairman of the Federal Association of Senior Citizens' Organizations (BAGSO).

In honor of the long-time chairman of the Diepholz District Sports Association (1982-2010), the sports halls in the district town of Diepholz were renamed Walter Link Sports Halls in 2013.
